Wally Wood Spring Hike
Wally Wood 1967
Wally Wood was the founding president of the Finger Lakes Trail Conference. He was a long distance hiker living in Rochester when he organized existing hiking clubs in 1962 at Keuka College forming the Finger Lakes Trail organization. The Annual Wally Wood Hike honors his memory. His monument pictured to the left is located on M7 South of Portageville. It was installed by landowner Hessie and the GVHC June 4, 2005.
The 2011 Wally Wood hike is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2011
Hike location: on the Abbott Loop (FLT Map M17) south of Ithaca.
This 8.4 mile-long loop hike, located in the Danby State Forest, was planned and built by Doris and Cliff Abbott and other Cayuga Trails Club members. It is one of the premier FLT loop trails. One of the highlights is Thatcher’s Pinnacles which provides a 180-degree view of the West Danby area below. We will be hiking it clockwise which means the first 1.7 miles will be on the main FLT.
