2022 Hike Series | Five Notable Hikes on the North Country National Scenic Trail in New York state

Any hike is better than languishing in an office all day, but sometimes the trekker seeks more scenery than the solace of a winding trail without end can provide. To that end, the Five Notable Hikes of New York’s portion of the North Country National Scenic Trail showcase some of the most expansive and interesting scenery in the state. Three of the five hikes are on the Finger Lakes Trail. And with a hike series beginning in May, trail users can explore all five locations in a group setting with experienced North Country hike coordinators. All five of the notable hikes qualify for the NCTA Hike 100, and Little Rock City, Mitchelsville Gorge, and Tinker Falls also qualify for the FLT60.

For more information and details about any of the five hikes, please email [email protected].   Registration is required.

Hunting forHemlocks: A Walking Workshop with FL-PRISM

Join the FLTC for a guided hike with the Finger Lakes PRISM to learn about one of our most destructive forest pests – the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA). In this workshop you will learn hands on how to identify a hemlock, what HWA is, and why it’s such a threat. Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to find HWA in the woods along the FLT. By documenting the spread of HWA, we can stop its spread before it’s too late!

This hike will be led by Matt Gallo, Terrestrial Program Outrech Coordinator for FL-PRISM and Deb Nero, Executive Director of the FLTC. It will take place in Sugar Hill State Forest, meeting on Maple Lane north of the intersection with Sugar Hill Rd in the town of Bradford. GPS coordinates and more details about meeting will be sent to registered hikers!
